This Girl Can

I'm not even going to hold back, this campaign is perfect.

If you haven't seen it, the This Girl Can campaign has been thought up by Sport England to try to get more women involved in sport. It has been found that more and more women don't participate in sports because of the way they look whilst they're doing it, and if I'm completely honest, I was the same for a long time.

The campaign consists of print and video content with women participating in sports. My personal favourite is the billboard of the woman running and really trying. The text across her is a direct quote which says 'I jiggle, therefore I am'. This has now become my motivation to fully throw myself back into my roller derby and fitness training this year.

In fact, just for you lovely readers, I asked a couple of my girls from NCVR (North Cheshire Victory Rollers) to have their say. Here's what they thought:

Loving the This Girl Can advert, I spend a lot of time being a sweaty, wobbly, happy woman! - Zoe Corker
I think it's an incredible campaign, I know too many girls who don't exercise because  they don't like the way they look whilst they're doing it, or they're worried because they're good 'good enough' at i. It doesn't matter what you do, whether you're 'good' at it. The important thing is that you do something you love, and embrace the fact that your body lets you do it. - Sarah Mij Hammond
It's an inspiring campaign for women (and men) of all shapes, sizes, ages, colours to get going and do some but also to everyone else to be accepting of those that are trying. I see me in it. -  Lisa Corker

It's important that you keep yourself healthy no matter what your background is or how old you are or even if you jiggle, because I do! Yes, we may come home covered in bruises and aches and pains and sometimes even more serious injuries, but at NCVR we love what we do and more importantly, we love each other. We are a group of girls who are of a completely mixed ability, but we're all equal in spirit and determination.

I am slightly disappointed more obscure sports aren't featured in the campaign because mainstream sports may not appeal to everyone. But overall, this campaign is awesome, and I hope it inspires a lot of people to get out there and give it a go!
